Darja Shatalova *1988 in Ufa, Russia. Lives and works currently in Vienna.

Shatalova is a multidisciplinary artist focused on structuring and systematizing data that describe current events from the environment and personal microcosm. In a continuous recording process, she creates multi-layered, encrypted expressions composed of symbols, mathematical signs, color codings, and assignments, serving analysis and pattern recognition. The data collected in the form of graphic recordings in artist books are translated into spatial installations, long-term performances, and sound compositions, with the transformative process forming a central element of her work methodology. Shatalova’s academic journey, mirroring the interdisciplinary nature of her artistic practice, began with Mathematics and Art Education at the University of Cologne. She then pursued Visual Communication under Christian Upmeier at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. Later, she studied Time-Based Media with Michaela Melián at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg. Finally, she delved into Transmedia Art under Brigitte Kowanz at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
