André Butzer, *1973 in Stuttgart, lives and works in Germany.
André Butzer’s work is divided into two complexes, in which the artist handles completely different styles skillfully. Like Walt Disney or Edvard Munch, Butzer invents scenes in utopian worlds. From this “Science-Fiction-Expressionism” with its recurring figures – which Butzer invented as hybrids of Pop Art and the Neo-Expressionism of the 1980s, yet contextualized them within European culture – to the abstraction prominent in his reduced, gray or black-and-white “N-images”, André Butzer is an impressive master of simplified shapes and vibrant colours alike.
